Glass containers for storage.
Transparent glass products are convenient and practical. Typically, manufacturers supply them with hermetic lids (screw-on or with silicone gaskets and a lock), which allows for ideal storage conditions for bulk products. Of all the advantages of such containers, the housewives put transparency in the first place: through the glass walls you can clearly see what is inside and in what quantity, so it won’t take much time to find the ingredient you need to cook dinner. Another significant plus is that such cans are well washed and do not absorb extraneous odors, and a minus is that they break easily.
Ceramic jars for storage.
Ceramic jars are a classic of the genre: heavy, reliable, originally designed, with inscriptions that make it easier to find the right cereal or pasta. They are suitable for all products, have the same advantages as glass containers (except for transparency) and are just as easy ... to break. As for tightness, it is problematic to find tightly closed ceramic jars - usually the lids on such containers simply lie on top. Because of this, bugs are often planted in the contents of containers.
Wooden containers for storage.
Wooden jars always look very decorative, but this is not the best option for storing bulk products. Why? They are leaky, easily absorb foreign odors and moisture, they are not recommended to be washed. So you can only keep bay leaves or salt in them. But they are indispensable as decor and therefore are indispensable elements of country-style kitchens.
Plastic containers for storage.
Plastic containers are light, compact, cheap and easy to clean. But they are rarely 100% airtight and can become cloudy or crack over time. Another significant drawback is the unpleasant odor. It often comes from products made from low-quality materials. So if you opted for plastic containers, open the cans and smell before buying: good food grade plastic has almost no smell, but poor quality polymer has a chemical “aroma” that will never fade. By the way, strong-smelling products can also be toxic.
Metal cans for storage.
Metal containers for bulk products are lightweight and have tight-fitting lids. But this is perhaps their only advantage. Such products can be tin or stainless steel. The former, under the influence of high humidity in the cooking zone, will quickly begin to rust, while the latter are more resistant to corrosion, but can give the products a specific flavor.
